Death of Ikemefuna
(How Ikemefuna died) Ikemefuna cries out to Okonkwo, “My father, they have killed me!” and runs toward Okonkwo. Afraid to appear weak, Okonkwo kills Ikemefuna with his machete. When Nwoye learns that Ikemefuna is dead, something changes within him. (Why Okonkwo kills Ikemefuna) Okonkwo kills Ikemefuna because he doesn’t want to appear weak in front of his fellow clansmen. Ogbuefi Ezeudu, a village elder, informs Okonkwo that the Oracle has decreed that Ikemefuna must be killed but that Okonkwo should not be the one to kill him, since Ikemefuna regards Okonkwo as a father.

Death of Ezeudu
(How Ezeudu’s died) Okonkwo’s gun accidentally goes off and kills Ezeudu’s sixteen-year-old son. Killing a clansman is a crime against the earth goddess, so Okonkwo must atone by taking his family into exile for seven years. Okonkwo gathers his most valuable belongings and takes his family to his mother’s natal village, Mbanta. (What happened after Ezeudu’s funeral) The bride-to-be went to live with her suitor’s family for seven market weeks. Which did not happen during Ezeudu’s funeral. He and his family were forced to leave the clan for seven years.

Death of Okonkwo
(Why Okonkwo’s death was important) Okonkwo’s death comes because he realizes that he has failed both the people and their goddess, Ani. Though he has the spirit to endure misfortunes such as the loss of his yams during the drought that hit Umuofia, the traumas of exile, and the humiliation of imprisonment, he does so with others. (How he died) Although the commissioner does not understand the gist of the exchange, he follows Obierika and a group of clansmen. They proceed to a small bush behind Okonkwo’s compound, where they discover Okonkwo’s body dangling from a tree. He has hanged himself.

How all these death are connected
These deaths are connected to each other because they all are connected to okonkwo okonkwo Hangs himself because Okonkwo realizes that he is no longer in sync with his society. No one applauds his action, and Okonkwo sees that he alone wishes to go to war with the Europeans. Caught between his rage that the nine villages would succumb to European rule and the futility of fighting the Europeans alone, Okonkwo retreats to his compound and hangs himself. With this act, Okonkwo lives up to his role as a tragic hero whose struggles with society ultimately lead to death. And Okonkwo didn’t like the man he was becoming, also with the other deaths of Ezeudu and Ikemefuna Okonkwo killed them because he thought he would gain trust from the new clan and did it to please the clan for their own good.
